FALL 2020 TREND REPORT: STYLE WATCH

A 3-minute read covering my top fall 20 runway styles.

Hi! It’s me being a millennial at a pumpkin patch.

It’s officially fall! Have I mentioned this is my favorite time of year? To kick off the best time of year, I visited a pumpkin patch. Was I the only one there childless? Yes. Did that stop me from being “that” millennial and busting out my tripod for a little photo shoot? Nope!

To close out the month, here are a few of my favorite fall styles from the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) runways and ready-to-wear (RTW) collections. In an upcoming post, I’ll share how to translate these luxury pieces into your everyday wardrobe featuring dupes from Amazon, Target, and more.

Fall 20 Styles

Capes & Ponchos

Any Ugly Betty fans out there? If you’re familiar, you’ll get this image. I was obsessed with this show and recently rewatched the series on Prime. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a must-watch! The Cliff’s Notes version is it’s about a young woman, Betty Suarez, who dreams of being a writer for a magazine. She lands a role at Mode magazine (one guess as to the real-life inspiration) and the show follows her journey as a budding editor.

While it’s mostly funny, it touches on some difficult topics with some dramatic scenes. Additionally, it features amazing fashion and stars the incredibly talented America Ferrara as the main character – Betty – along with some other big names (i.e. Vanessa Williams).

Thigh-High, Oh My

Thigh-high boots are back, with slouchy versions being an “it” item.

Throwback: Leg of Mutton Sleeves

History lesson: Also known as the Gigot sleeve by the French, the leg of mutton sleeve has a long history in the world of fashion dating back to the 1500s, however this style gained popularity with both genders in the 19th century. The leg of mutton sleeve features a voluminous gathering fabric from the top of the shoulder to above the elbow, with the elbow to the wrist being tight-fitting.

Fashion or Bust: Bustiers

Try mixing up your basics by layering a corset, bandeau or bustier over a white oversized button up. Bonus points if it’s a faux leather option.

Masks…But Make it Fashion

COVID-19 is serious and wearing a mask is not only critical to protecting yourself but protecting others. Sure, you could go with a disposable mask or help slow the spread whilst making it fashion. While I’m sharing the below for inspiration and aspiration, I encourage you to support local as there are several small businesses and solopreneurs making beautiful and affordable masks simply to stay afloat.

Other notable styles are exaggerated waists, plaid, and sweetheart necklines.

What style are you most excited about? Any I’ve left off this list that you’re loving? Share in the comments or on my coordinating IG post!
