Today’s DIY post focuses on a super easy rustic wreath.
I could give you a super long, whimsical introductory backstory about my love of wreaths, but I’m not! So, let’s get to it.
Before we dive into things, please use this as a guide only. This is versatile enough to truly make your own. Choose your own adventure!
Supplies
- Wooden embroidery hoop (I used a 14”)
- Wire (I used 22 gauge)
- Wirecutter (action pliers)
- Ribbon (to hang…use what you like!)
- Decorative items: This is the choose your own adventure part, use what you like! For the purpose of this tutorial, I used a small cardinal, two pinecones, decorative berry and twig stems, and a green faux pine bundle.
Substitution
- Hot glue gun (depending upon what you use to decorate the wreath/if you prefer to use this over the wire).
- Essential oil: You can add a dabble of essential oil to the faux pine (or ribbon) for a lovely little scent.
How to make a rustic wooden wreath
Before you get started, I recommend – particularly if you are not a visual person – placing the decorative items where you want them placed on the wreath. That way you have a direction to start and know where you’re heading. That will also allow you to cut the decorative pieces to the desired length first along with wire (if you’re using wire to attach).
After you’ve set up your workspace with all your supplies ready to go:
Step 1
Take one bundle of pine and attach to one side of the wooden hoop (along the bottom) with wire (or hot glue pieces down). Repeat this step for the opposite side. Fill in additional pieces to the desired look.
Step 2
Fill in remainder of pine with berry stems and twigs (or whatever you’re using).
Step 3
Use wire or hot glue to attach the pine cones in the middle of the wreath.
Step 4
Attach the cardinal with wire or hot glue (in hindsight, hot glue is much better to use for this specific part).
Step 5
Cut a piece of ribbon and tie it to the top of the hoop and hang.
